An introduction to Reformer Pilates for complete beginners :)

This class is for you if you have never done Pilates on a reformer before. Even if you have done yoga, go to the gym or exercise regularly, Pilates classes have a discipline that, once familiar, will help you progress through basics, to foundations and on to intermediate exercises with correct form, alignment, control and confidence in what you are doing with your body.

The reformer is a specialised Pilates exercise machine, which enhances mat exercises through adjustable spring resistance, hand and feet straps provide support for proper alignment and body awareness, and allows clients to find control and precision in movements they may not have found on the mat. A reformer session is ideal for building strength and co-ordination in a low-impact and supported way.

This class will run through foundation exercises designed to introduce beginners to the benefits and core principles of Pilates, being: centering, concentration, control, precision, breath, and flow. These principles, developed by Joseph Pilates, encourage quality of movement over quantity to improve posture, flexibility, stability, and development of a strong mind-body connection. We will cover the importance of breath in conjunction to movement, correct positioning of your body for each exercise and terminology that you will take with you into a basic or foundation level class.

If this is your first class with Lightform, you will be required to complete a client registration form which will ask you to detail any injuries, areas of concern or mobility issues along with why you are interested in Pilates and the goals you have for your body.

Is this class for you?
Pilates on the reformer is fun! But, it is not the best place to learn Pilates for the first time. If you have never been introduced to Pilates, We recommend you attend the Mat Welcome class before moving on to the reformer, which ensures you get the most benefit from the session.

This class is not suitable if you are recovering from surgery, injury or experiencing more complex mobility limitations, a private or semi-private tailored session may suit you better, please reach out if you have any questions as Pilates is for every body.

How do I book a session?
Welcome classes are held occasionally, check the schedule for the next Welcome day, then click the REGISTER button for the class you want to attend.
